![]() Aleata runs her own production group called Maggot Mosh Productions and runs a horror movie blog called Gore Gore Dancer Reviews. Aleata's gory passion has evolved into into a love of writing and directing horror films. Sit back and relax, this will not be the last time you hear of Aleata Illusion. DamnedSociety: So tell us how you first fell in love with horror. Aleata: Well it began when I was a little one. I watched Poltergeist for the first time and was somewhat traumatized. It was something about that pink goo that really got me and the clown doll scene, haha. But I only wanted to watch more horror, and did every chance I got. Now it's everything I do, and I still just glow with joy when I see a good horror film.DamnedSociety: What did your family and friends think of this obsession? Aleata: Haha, most of them don't mind my love of the macabre because they are so used to it. But I guess I can be an annoyance to them . For instance a good chunk of what I talk about is movies. My sister Tiara is always like "Aleata you talk about this like I know what your talking about". I have movie nights all the time and open family and friends up to new movies that most of them enjoy. Friends/family are always telling me they are glad I showed them so and so movie and such.
DamnedSociety: So you live in Ohio, how is the horror scene there? Aleata: It's pretty good, I know pretty much all the filmmakers around here. I have a projects planned with 2 of them, I'm not sure when those will get put into action. Cleveland is a pretty good spot for the horror scene(it's an hour away from where I live), and they have Cinema wasteland(popular horror movie convention), zombie walks downtown, and lot's of film meetings as well. They are also currently trying to get film equipment available to the public there. For anyone Ohio based that wants more info on it you can learn more about it here: http://www.refresheverything.com/clevelandfilm DamnedSociety: Tell us a little about your horror blog, how did that start? Aleata: Well I'm a very loud, opinionated person. I have a tendency to constantly talk during movies explaining what I like/dislike, or just make sarcastic comments. So one day I just decided "well maybe it's time I start a horror movie blog". So Gore Gore Dancer Movie Reviews was born. It was one of the best idea's I have had yet! It's a great place for me to get out all my manical movie thoughts, and at the same time open people up to new and amazing horror/indepedent flicks. I'm psyched people really took to it and enjoy it. Gives me even more motivation to write. DamnedSociety: And what about film making, how has that been going? -That's been on hold recently due to brokeness and cast problems. I'm really hoping to get everything going in the next month, but it's difficult when you're doing everything yourself. But I have faith! I'll definitely let you know when things start rolling again! Aleata: Where do you want to take your horror career? What goals do you have? -My main goal right now is to finally complete a full length movie. We've done plenty of short movies, but I would really like to get my full length zombie movie up and running. You have ups and downs in the independent film industry. There's always the problem of money, and getting your actors together all at the same time to film scenes, etc. So I would just love to get a movie complete! Then after that, another, and another. I do it for the sole purpose of my love for the genre and film, but it would be nice to make some cash somewhere along the way. Another one of my goals is to one day work on a movie with Joe Lynch, I adore that man! You know I just want to continue doing what I’m doing and get my name out there. DamnedSociety: What’s the best part about working in the horror industry? Aleata: Really, everything! I've met such great people who share the same love for horror as me. I'm doing what I've dreamed of doing. I wake up everyday and I am stoked to review movies, write scripts, film, model. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, then why do it? DamnedSociety: Who or what inspires you? Aleata: My baby sister Tiara(she's not a baby, she's actually 17) inspires me. A lot of what I work on is with her, like we can just sit in a room and come up with a million hilariously awesome idea's. My mind is a complex creature, I can come up with idea's just from seeing something that triggers my creative thinking. For instance, I came up with an entire movie just by getting a toothpick from a amish restaurant. Haha, my mind is always in "what if" mode. Also Mr. Lucio Fulci, he's my favorite director!
DamnedSociety: Time for shameless questions, who in the hell dyes your hair? The colors are fabulous! Aleata: Thanks! I do my hair 90% of the time, the other 10% my sister Tiara will do it. When I can get her to, I'll have Tiara style it as well. She's an amazing hair stylist, that's what she's going to school for. I love colorful hair! I'm actually going rainbow again and doing my hair 5 different colors this week! DamnedSociety: What are your favorite horror movies? Aleata: : Oh man, my list could go on forever! But some of my favorites are Bucket Of Blood, Sore Losers, Wild Zero, Suburban Nightmare, Midnight Skater, Murder Party, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, RX(a truly frightening film), Everything Lucio Fulci, and The Warriors. Damned Society: I hate asking this, but do you have a “real job”? Or is it strictly horror industry? Aleata: I work for my mom actually. As nice as that sounds, I do work my ass off. She runs a vintage/costume/sewing lounge in Akron. I also run ebay and sell stuff on there for her as well. Gotta keep the money coming in, so I can continue doing what I love. DamnedSociety: And last but not least, what’s going on with 2010? Got anything planned? Aleata: As of now, I have several horror/movie conventions I'm planning on attending in Ohio, Modeling, running my horror blog, and getting a couple of my scripts complete and ready to shoot, oh and a awesome vacation to haunted spots with my honey. And I would just like to thank you Vanessa for taking the time to interview me! =] To find out more, you can find me on these websites: www.AleataIllusion.blogspot.com www.myspace.com/AleataIllusion www.twitter.com/GoreGore_Dancer ![]()
