Razor Candi is one of the most influential models that we know. With an extremely versatile and eccentric look, she can go from glam to gore in a matter of seconds. Her ability to translate horror in to artistic works of art, has landed her on our Scream Queen features. If you dont know who Razor Candi is, you'll be dying to find out.

DamnedSociety: Lets start off with the basics, what lead you to pick the name RazorCandi?

Kym: I chose the name RazorCandi in 1996. During this time I was heavily into Glam Rock and one of my favorite bands was Plastic Princess (no longer together), they had a song called Razor Candy and I found the lyrics to b quite fitting for my alias/online persona.

DamnedSociety: Did you always want to be involved with modeling?

Kym: I discovered my interest in modeling around year 2001 but never really considered myself a model, even now. It’s simply a hobby and leisure pursuit that I enjoy doing and I tend to see myself more as an artist. I find that modeling is a great way to express art and emotion. I’ve always been especially interested in painting but I feel that modeling is a more instant result. Modeling only became significant when I noticed I was inspiring people and that I was making an impact. It’s an elevating feeling to know that I can help people feel better about themselves and encourage them to want to learn and be part of the alternative community.

DamnedSociety: We know you weren't born with a Mohawk and fishnets on (although that would be cool!) But at what point did you start developing your look?

Kym: I was always absorbed by odd and extraordinary things even as a child my favorite moves were Tim Burton films like Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands and Beetle Juice and I was completely into 80’s horror flicks and other fantasy films like Legend and The Labyrinth, so it’s no wonder by my early teen years I was fascinated with bands like David Bowie, T-Rex, and New York Dolls. I started playing around with more of a glam/goth style and later in high school I became interested in goth rock and batcave bands like Bauhaus, Sex Gang Children, Joy Division, Virgin Prunes and Alien Sex Fiend at this point I adopted a more goth/punk style.

DamnedSociety: I couldn't even paint my nails black and put on a temporary tattoo without my parents freaking out - what reaction did your family give you towards your look?

Kym: My parents have always been supportive of my look, I wouldn’t say they love it or even like it, but they accept it none the less. I am sure like most parents they were freaking out inside but they always knew I had an artistic streak and that I was a good person so they were pretty lenient. They believed it was better to let me express myself and be an individual than to be a follower and try to be like everyone else. Like most parents they believed it was a phase but I think they quickly realized that this is just who I am and maybe that’s why they just learned to embrace it. My parents are very good people, I wouldn’t change them for the world!

DamnedSociety: If I type in google 'gothic, alternative, or even fetish model - its safe to say your going to come up somewhere in the search. Did you ever expect this much popularity and positive feedback from people?

Kym: I certainly never thought my work would become so extreme. It’s very moving to know that my work has made it as far as it has. I am really grateful for the positive feedback, it is my fuel and what keeps me doing what I do, even the negative feed back pushes me to be better and outdo myself, though at times I feel defeated because I believe that my intention is misunderstood, it seems to have taken a path towards competitions and superior attitudes. It makes me sad to see a group of people be so lost and treat one another with such arrogance and disrespect when from the beginning it’s all supposed to be about art and embracing one another for being artists and making a difference. Sometimes I look back and see how far I have come and I can say that I am proud but I can not say that I feel accomplished, not until I see people shine their brightest, not until I see people give instead of take.

DamnedSociety: So you left Florida, and moved to Transylvania. Why the big change?

Kym: I’ve always loved to travel, a major dream of mine is to travel and see the world and learn new cultures so when I met my husband I saw it as a great opportunity to move to Romania and experience something new. It’s a very beautiful country, breath taking landscapes and mind blowing architectures, but at times I tend to feel a bit forlorn and alone because of the lack of education toward the alternative culture here. I feel very alienated and unaccepted in the already scarcely existing scene so sometimes it’s hard knowing I left everything behind in Florida. Some advice for people interested in traveling to Romania, it’s worth it for the scenery… but not the scene, if you know what I mean.

DamnedSociety: Lets talk about your two books. What’s the main reason you wanted to publish your work?

Kym: I decided that making a trilogy (yes there will be a third volume!!) of my classic work would be something my fans would be interested and excited about. I think a book is more tangible than restricting my images to a computer screen. It is a way for me to reach out and be more personal and thanks to my fans my work will live on to inspire and encourage people to be themselves and keep art alive. There’s also a practical side to it as the book gives the owner several pictures in one rather than purchasing separate prints.

DamnedSociety: Where can our members snag a copy?

Kym: Unfortunately my book is not yet sold in stores however members can snag a copy directly from me at Razor_Candi @Yahoo.com. I thought it would be more personal to be able to handle the copies myself and autograph them personally to the buyer.

DamnedSociety: I read somewhere that you are not modeling any more, is this true?

Kym: I have taken a bit of a break and I am unsure if I will get back into modeling full time. To be honest I just feel that alternative modeling is taking a bit of a plummet. The internet has become saturated with amateurs and after being stood up so many times by designers, photographers and organizers I decided I’ve had enough. I put a lot of passion and time into my work and I am very serious about what I do and if others can not deliver then it’s not worth delivering back. I do however still work exclusively with designers such as Gore Couture and a few others who are professional and also serious about their work, so I do still collaborate with others if I feel they are reliable.

DamnedSociety: Do you have a 'normal' job? (I hate that word) or maybe going to school for anything?

Kym: I do not work a normal job, I make most of my income through my art, selling images, paintings, and now my books. Before I moved to Romania I danced as a go go dancer in the largest goth club on the East Coast called The Castle as well as other guest performances for events. I am currently interested in getting up a pay site or an official website where I can have an adult section and also sell more merchandise like T-shirts, buttons stickers etc. but first I need some one who is trust worthy and willing to give me their time and help toward reaching this goal.

DamnedSociety: Since we are a horror network, I have to ask - got any favorite horror flicks?

Kym: Absolutely!! As I mentioned earlier I love 80’s horror flicks, my favorites being Dead Alive, Trolls, Dolls, The Gate, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Killer Clowns From Outer Space. I also love some of the remakes like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of The Dead and The Hills Have Eyes.
